Trauma Release Exercises (TRE) are a powerful and transformative approach designed to help you release deep-seated stress, tension, and trauma from your body. At Embody Essence, we are committed to guiding you through this process with care, compassion, and expertise.

​What does TRE® stand for ?

​TRE® stands for Tension or Trauma Releasing Exercises


What is TRE ?

TRE® is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. Created by Dr. David Bercelli, PhD, TRE® safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.

How do I learn TRE?

​Make sure you learn TRE® with a Certified TRE Provider who is highly trained in the delivering these exercises safely. It is recommended to do at least 4-5 Supervised sessions initially, so that one learns how to self regulate and that the Provider is happy that you can continue with your own practice. Then it is a powerful de-stress tool that you then have for life!
 

Should I do an Individual or a Group TRE Session ?

You can learn TRE in Group and Individual Sessions. Group Sessions are great for learning the exercises and how to self regulate. It is also highly recommended that you go for some Individual Sessions as it allows the TRE Provider to work with you specifically and follow your unique process of releasing stress, trauma and tension from your body. It is best to opt for an Individual Session if you’re dealing with a lot of trauma in your life or have mental health difficulties. Please check in if you have epilepsy or are pregnant.

Is it possible to do TRE Online ?

Yes TRE is just as effective learnt Online in an Individual or Small Group Session. It can be nice doing it in the comfort of your own home where you have more time to rest and integrate afterwards.

 

How many sessions would you recommend ? 

You will definitely learn a lot and benefit from one session. However, it is highly recommended and beneficial to do at least 4 Sessions to get a thorough grasp of the practice and to ensure that you learn how to do it on your own safely. In the four sessions you will refine and deepen your practice and learn how to self-regulate. You then will have a de-stress practice to take away with you for life!

If you can, joining a regular TRE practice group is a great and fun way to support your TRE journey. Basically, the more often you do this practice (within the specified limits), the more you will benefit. The body aligns, unravels on so many levels; stress, trauma, tension, structural / musculature /  fascia re-alignment can take place to give a few examples.

Ciara is a fully ​Certified TRE® Provider and has a lot of experience supporting people through the TRE process, which she has been sharing since 2015. 

With a background in Psychology, Ciara is also trained in several methods of Psychotherapy & Healing. She has worked in the fields of Mental Health, Wellness, Addiction, Trauma Recovery, Learning Disability since 2000.

More information on TRE®

​TRE® is based on the fundamental idea, backed by recent research, that stress, tension and trauma is both psychological and physical. TRE® emerged out of Dr. David Bercelli’s work with large traumatised communities while living in Africa and the Middle East. His observation and exploration led him to understand that this natural shaking/vibrating response appears to be the body’s own built-in system for quieting down the brain and releasing muscular tension as a way of healing itself from chronic stress, tension and trauma.

TRE® has helped many thousands of people globally. TRE® is a safe and effective stress release technique for most people. The TRE process should not be used as a substitute for trauma recovery procedures of a medical or psychiatric/psychological nature. Individuals who have physical or psychological conditions that require strict regulation, individuals with fragile psychological defences, a complex history of trauma or restricting physical or medical limitations should consult their medical practitioner or a Certified TRE Provider prior to performing these exercises.
